Best Selling Children’s Books of 2017

UK Amazon top 10 — weekly retrospective covering 13 May 2017 to 22 July 2017

Between 13 May 2017 and 22 July 2017, we tracked the UK’s top-selling children’s books on Amazon every weekend. Across 11 consecutive weeks, one title refused to budge from the top spot, a handful of favourites cycled through the top 10, and the summer-holiday crowd started to build its reading list. This page consolidates all 11 weekly charts from summer 2017 into a single retrospective, with live Amazon links to buy today.

The chart-topper

The story of summer 2017 in children’s books belongs to David Walliams. The World’s Worst Children 2 (HarperCollins) sat at number one every single week from May to July – an unbroken eleven-week run that no other title came close to matching. It wasn’t alone: the original World’s Worst Children kept pace just behind, and Walliams’ earlier The Midnight Gang spent eight weeks in the top ten. Three Walliams titles in the top ten for most of the summer isn’t a coincidence – it’s a clean sweep of family reading for the school-summer-term run-up.

Classics held their ground too. The Kindle edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows appeared in every one of the 11 weeks, Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar board book was a fixture, and R. J. Palacio’s Wonder – buoyed by its forthcoming film adaptation – spent eight weeks in the top ten as parents and teachers stocked up for end-of-term reading.
