Endeavour Morse: My new Sunday night favourite

April 28, 2013 by editor Leave a Comment

After the pilot episode last year this is the first four part series.  The first two, two hour long episode have been excellent and I’m really looking forward to tonights.  It’s on at 8pm on ITV or if that’s a bit early for you then you can catch it an hour later on ITV+1.  I watch very little TV these days so it has to be something special to get me to switch on (Doctor Who, Sherlock, Lewis, Morse and now Endeavour). This series had the potential to be a disaster but instead the excellent acting, well crafted story, the music, the scenes of Oxford and the period sets and costumes just work really well.  It also has that feeling of Life on Mars, you have that superior feeling of knowing how it all turns out in the end without actually knowing how we get there.  That’s probably the nicest thing about this series, it gives the writers a chance to fill in the back story to Morse.

If you’re looking for a nice way to finish off the weekend then why not sit down for a couple of hours tonight with a cup of tea or glass of wine and enjoy this new series.

TV, Radio & Cinema Highlights for January 21st & 22nd 2012

January 21, 2012 by siteadmin Leave a Comment

I’m a busy person and I’m very selective about the television I watch but I do like to try and sit down and relax for a few hours at the weekend.   I struggled this weekend to find something to watch

Saturday BBC4 20:00 Shock and Awe: The story of electricity
Professor Jim Al-Khalili presents the history of electricity.  It’s more interesting than the subject might suggest and a great historical story.  The world would be a very different place without wide scale power distribution into homes, offices and factories.

Sunday BBC2 18:00 The Last Explorers
This is a new series where Neil Oliver looks at the feats of four Scottish adventurers.  I always like the excitement and delight that Neil Oliver brings to the delivery of what I sure would have seem dull history lessons when I was at school.  This week the series begins with David Livingstone and how he worked to bring an end to the salve trade in Africa.

Sunday BBC4 19:00 Pugin: God’s Own Architect
Augustus Northmore Welby Pugin is far from being a household name, yet he designed the iconic clock tower of Big Ben as well as much of the Palace of Westminster. The 19th century Gothic Revival that Pugin inspired, with its medieval influences and soaring church spires, established an image of Britain which still defines the nation. Presenter Richard Taylor charts Pugin’s extraordinary life story and discovers how his work continues to influence Britain today.

BBC iPlayer Horizon : Playing God
I had a busy week and missed this but it’s important viewing and will be making a point of watching it this weekend. Adam Rutherford meets a new creature created by American scientists – the spider-goat. It is part goat, part spider, and its milk can be used to create artificial spider’s web.

If I’ve missed anything you think is great I’d love to hear from you.
