Antony sits on the Rame peninsula in the south-east tip of Cornwall — an early-Georgian house overlooking the river Lynher, set in formal lawns, topiary and 100 acres of woodland that drop down to the river. Tim Burton filmed the Red Queen’s garden scenes from Alice in Wonderland here in 2009 and the topiary cones and chess pieces are still arranged as they were for the shoot.

What to expect on a family visit
A relaxed half-day. The house opens on limited days (typically Wednesdays through Sundays in season — check ahead). The topiary garden is the children’s headline. The river walks down to Lynher are pushchair-tolerant on the main paths. NT café in the courtyard yard.
