Lakeside is one of the largest shopping centres in the country and the closest indoor mall to east London, built around a former chalk quarry on the Essex bank of the Thames. It sits opposite its long-standing rival, Bluewater, just across the water in Kent. Lakeside Christmas Opening Times 2026

Lakeside has not published its Christmas 2026 opening times yet (we checked on 2 October). Last year it opened until 10pm from Monday 15 to Tuesday 23 December (Sunday 21 December 11am–5pm), 10am–6pm on Christmas Eve and 10am–6pm on Boxing Day, so expect the same shape this year. Already confirmed for 2026: The Santa Express grotto in the Central Atrium, from Friday 27 November to Christmas Eve.

The Santa Express is booked in advance through the centre’s website. For the shops themselves, the final-week evenings after 7pm are the calmest of the late nights; House of Fraser has closed, and M&S (the large store opened in 2024), Next and Primark are now the anchors.

The standard weekly hours below are taken from the centre’s own opening-hours page and apply outside the festive period and certain bank holidays, when the schedule changes. Individual shops may keep slightly different hours, and the food court and the Vue cinema run later than the headline mall hours — see the eating section below.

Saturday at Lakeside

Saturday runs 9.00am to 9.00pm — a twelve-hour day, the longest of the week, opening an hour earlier than the 10.00am weekday start. Saturday is consistently the busiest day for visitors. The 9.00am to 11.00am window is the calmest Saturday morning slot — door-open arrivers can park close to the main entrances before the 11.00am to 4.00pm peak fills the multi-storey lots. From 5.00pm onwards Saturday tends to thin out as families head home; the final two hours through to 9.00pm are noticeably calmer and remain a strong window for serious shopping. Sunday at Lakeside

Sunday runs 11.00am to 5.00pm — a six-hour window set by the Sunday Trading Act. Many boutiques start admitting browsers from 10.30am, with full till transactions running between 11.00am and 5.00pm. The food court restaurants and the Vue cinema keep longer Sunday hours and stay open into the evening. Sunday is the second busiest day of the week after Saturday — the calmest hour is the 11.00am opening window, before the post-lunch surge.

Today and tomorrow

The standard hours above apply on any normal trading day. The exceptions are the December festive period, Christmas Day (closed), Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, and the spring and summer bank holiday Mondays — see the festive and bank-holiday sections below for those specific dates. If today or tomorrow falls outside any of those listed exceptions, Lakeside trades 10.00am–9.00pm Monday to Friday, 9.00am–9.00pm Saturday or 11.00am–5.00pm Sunday.

Lakeside Christmas Opening Times 2026: Boxing Day and New Year

Boxing Day is the start of the sales. In 2025 Lakeside opened at 10am and closed at 6pm, a shorter day than many expect, so go early rather than late.

Lakeside Easter Opening Times and Bank Holidays

Easter Sunday is closed by law for retail units over 280 square metres under the Sunday Trading Act — the same rule that closes large stores on Christmas Day. A small number of leisure operators, such as the Vue cinema and the food court restaurants, typically stay open on shorter hours. Easter 2027 falls on Good Friday 26 March, Easter Saturday 27 March, Easter Sunday 28 March and Easter Monday 29 March. Good Friday and Easter Monday trade on reduced bank-holiday hours — the centre’s recent published pattern is 10.00am to 7.00pm — while Easter Saturday keeps the usual 9.00am to 9.00pm.

On the early May, late May (spring) and August (summer) bank holiday Mondays, Lakeside trades on reduced bank-holiday hours rather than the full weekday day — the centre’s recently published pattern for these Mondays is 10.00am to 7.00pm. The exact times for each date go up on the official page three to four weeks beforehand, so confirm before a special trip.

If you remember the centre as Intu Lakeside, this is the same place. Intu retired the brand in 2020 after the group went into administration, and the centre has traded as Lakeside ever since. It is owned by SGS UK Retail and managed by Savills, with Pradera Lateral as asset manager; the schedule above is the current one.

Anchor department stores

Lakeside has four anchor stores: Marks & Spencer, Primark, Next and JD Sports. M&S runs a large Foodhall and clothing store, having relocated into the former Debenhams unit; Next moved into the old House of Fraser space and upsized in 2025, and JD Sports took part of the former M&S unit the same year. Frasers Group’s H Beauty operates a large beauty-hall flagship. Debenhams closed in 2021 and House of Fraser in January 2024; both have since been re-tenanted. Urban Outfitters is due to open on the lower level in summer 2026.

Fashion: high street and premium

Zara, H&M, Stradivarius, Pull&Bear, Next, New Look, River Island, Quiz, FatFace, Reiss, Hobbs, Whistles, Phase Eight, Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Lacoste, Charles Tyrwhitt and Moss cover the fashion floors, from the high street to premium contemporary. New arrivals for 2026 include Bershka, Hollister and The White Company, alongside the incoming Urban Outfitters.

Sportswear, outdoor and shoes

JD Sports, Foot Locker, Footasylum, Crep Collection Club, Nike, Skechers, Clarks, Schuh, Office, Dune London, Kurt Geiger, Carvela, Deichmann, Timberland and Jones Bootmaker cover the sportswear, outdoor and footwear categories.

Beauty, fragrance and jewellery

H Beauty (Frasers’ beauty hall flagship), Lush, The Body Shop, Boots, Superdrug, The Fragrance Shop, The Perfume Shop, Jo Malone London, Beautybase, Sk:n and Holland & Barrett cover beauty and fragrance. Jewellery and watches at Lakeside is one of the strongest in the south-east outside London: Beaverbrooks, Goldsmiths, F.Hinds, Warren James, Chisholm Hunter, PANDORA, Swarovski, Thomas Sabo, Lovisa, Victoria’s Secret, plus dedicated luxury watch boutiques including Rolex and TAG Heuer.

Electronics, lifestyle and homeware

Apple, EE, O2, Three, Currys, CEX, Robert Dyas, ProCook, LEGO, Smiggle, The Entertainer, Build-A-Bear, Flying Tiger Copenhagen, Card Factory, Clintons, Waterstones and WHSmith cover electronics, gifting and homeware.

Food, drink and leisure

The Lakeside food and drink offer runs to over 60 cafés and restaurants. Sit-down restaurants include Wagamama, Nando’s, Five Guys, Bella Italia, Pizza Hut, PizzaExpress, Las Iguanas, TGI Fridays, Wahaca, Byron and Frankie & Benny’s. Quick-service includes Pret, Costa, Caffè Nero, Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, Hotel Chocolat, Greggs, McDonald’s, KFC and Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe. Lakeside Late Night Shopping

Lakeside trades to 9.00pm Monday to Saturday as standard — one of the longer evening windows of any UK shopping centre, on a par with Bluewater across the Thames. The 6.00pm to 9.00pm slot each weekday is consistently the calmest part of the day: the same closing time as Saturday, with far smaller crowds than the weekend afternoons. On Sunday the 5.00pm close is set by the Sunday Trading Act and applies to all the larger shops, though the cinema and food court restaurants stay open later.

The genuine late-night extension is the December festive period, when Lakeside extends to 10.00pm; in 2025 that ran from 15 to 23 December. The Vue cinema runs to its last screening of the night every night of the year, and Flip Out and Immersive Gamebox keep similar evening hours.

Getting to Lakeside

By car and parking

Lakeside sits at Junction 31 of the M25 in West Thurrock, Essex — directly off the motorway with dedicated mall slip roads. Parking is on-site with around 12,000 free spaces across 12 surface lots and multi-storey car parks, including disabled bays and electric-vehicle charging. By train

The closest railway station is Chafford Hundred for Lakeside on the c2c line from London Fenchurch Street — about 30 minutes from central London. From Chafford Hundred a direct covered walkway connects to the Lakeside main entrance — about a five-minute walk. The c2c line also runs from Stratford and east London for cross-platform connections to the rest of the rail network.

By bus

The Lakeside Bus Station sits at the rear of the centre and is served by routes from across Essex and east London including Romford, Basildon, Grays, Tilbury, Gravesend (via the Tilbury ferry), Chelmsford and Southend-on-Sea. Direct services from London Stratford run frequently with a journey time of about 50 minutes via the Fastrack network.

Where to Eat at Lakeside

The Lakeside eating offer runs to more than 60 cafés and restaurants. Sit-down restaurants are concentrated in the Boardwalk dining area overlooking the lake, with the Atrium food court housing the bulk of the quick-service options. Notable options include:
