The Pannier Market and Lemon Street Market

The Pannier Market on Lemon Quay is Truro’s largest indoor market, a covered hall of independent traders selling Cornish food and drink, crafts, jewellery, vintage clothing, books, antiques and homeware. It trades Monday to Saturday, roughly 9am to 5pm, with four entrances — Lemon Quay, Green Street, Tinners Court and the route through to Prince’s Street — and individual stalls keeping their own hours within that window. It is closed on Sundays.

Lemon Street Market, a separate venue a short walk up Lemon Street, is the city’s other indoor destination: a cluster of independent traders covering jewellery, ceramics, photography, art and Cornish crafts, with a popular cafe. Waitrose at Tregurra: Stocking Up on the Edge of Town

For anyone driving on through Cornwall, the most useful stock-up stop sits just outside the centre. Waitrose & Partners at Tregurra Park, on the Newquay Road (A39) about a mile north-east of Boscawen Street, opened in 2016 alongside the Great Cornish Food Store and is Waitrose’s most southerly branch in the UK — the last of the name before the road runs down to the far west. It is a natural last call for holidaymakers loading the car before heading deeper into the county, and it keeps far longer hours than the city-centre shops: Monday to Thursday 8am to 8pm, Friday 8am to 9pm, Saturday 8am to 8pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. The neighbouring Great Cornish Food Store, under the same roof, is the place for local cheese, meat and drink to take with you.

A Walk Around Truro City Centre

Between the shops, Truro rewards a wander. The three-spired cathedral rises straight out of the streets, its towers visible above the rooftops and framed at the end of the old lanes; below it, Cathedral Lane runs in cobbled steps hung with flower baskets, the war memorial keeps watch over the Coinage Hall, and the flag of St Piran flies from the City Hall. Getting to Truro

Truro railway station sits about ten minutes’ walk south-west of Boscawen Street and the main shopping streets. Great Western Railway runs direct services from London Paddington (about four and a half hours), Plymouth, Exeter and the Cornish branches to Falmouth and Penzance, while CrossCountry reaches Truro from Birmingham, Bristol and the Midlands. The bus station on Lemon Quay hosts First Kernow services across the county. For drivers, the Park & Ride from Threemilestone is the easiest option, dropping you at Lemon Quay; during festive late-night shopping it runs later into the evening.

If you would rather drive in, Moorfield is the long-stay car park closest to Lemon Quay and the main shopping streets. Cornwall Council charges £2.70 for up to an hour in the daytime, rising to £11.70 for 24 hours, but the evening is where it earns its keep for late shopping: a flat £2.50 from 6pm to midnight, then free from midnight to 9am. You can pay by card, Apple Pay or the JustPark app (location 8436), and Blue Badge holders get an extra hour.
