Trelissick sits on a wooded peninsula above the King Harry Ferry, where the Fal narrows enough to feel like a Norwegian fjord. The gardens are a mix of formal lawn-and-cedar planting around the house and woodland walks falling away to the river — and the views back down the Fal towards Falmouth are a Cornish classic. The site is more a long Sunday-afternoon wander than a one-room-after-another house tour.

What to expect on a family visit
Two to three hours. The main lawn is buggy- and wheelchair-friendly; the wooded river walks need sensible shoes. The on-site restaurant is properly good. The King Harry Ferry runs every 20 minutes a few minutes’ drive away — a £4 trip across the Fal that’s worth the diversion in itself, and it gives you the option of pairing Trelissick with St Mawes Castle on the same day.
