Baking for Mother’s Day

With Mother’s Day less than two weeks away, it seems like a good idea to start thinking about what you might buy your Mum this year.  My Mum makes lovely cakes and whilst I can’t match her, I thought it would be nice to create some sweet treats for her to help celebrate Mother’s Day.  I appreciate that it is a little early to make an edible Mother’s Day treat, but as I need the practice I shall make some test cakes this weekend so we I can try them.  If they are any good, then I will make some more next Saturday.

I think chocolate brownies are delicious and however full anyone is they can always make room for them.  As both my Mother and Mother-in-law are here on Mother’s Day, I think I will go for Nigella’s recipe for flourless chocolate brownies as they are gooey and can be served with cream or ice cream as a dessert.  Nigella serves her chocolate brownies with chocolate sauce and ice cream but I cam going just for the ice cream as I feel we will all have taken on enough extra calories with just the brownies.  If you are looking for really great ice-cream, then it has to be italian.  I like Parravanis as I live in Norfolk and I am glad to say they have just started making larger retail tubs of ice-cream – good news indeed!
