Saturday and Sunday is a family lifestyle blog run by Linda and John Garrould of Garrould Ltd. We write about family weekends out, gardening and home cookery. This page explains what information we collect when you read the site or get in touch, why we collect it, what we do with it, and the rights you have under UK data protection law.

This website is published by Garrould Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. For everything to do with this privacy policy — your data, your rights, or anything that does not look right to you — Garrould Ltd is the data controller.

The information we collect
We collect two kinds of information: things you give us on purpose, and things our website learns when you read it.
Information you give us on purpose
If you fill in our contact form, leave a comment on a post, or send us an email, we will see whatever you have chosen to share with us. That usually means your name, your email address, and the message itself. If you leave a comment, the form also stores the IP address and browser version your computer or phone reports — this is a standard WordPress feature and helps us keep spam under control.
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, our hosting service keeps technical logs of who has visited which pages — your IP address, the page you asked for, the time of the request, and the kind of browser you used. These logs help us spot security problems and keep the site fast.
We also use a small number of third-party services that set cookies on your browser. Those are explained in the next section.
Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to remember. We use cookies in three categories.
Strictly necessary
WordPress, the software that runs this site, uses cookies to log users in and to protect forms from automated abuse. Without these the site simply will not work, so we do not ask for permission to set them — UK data protection law allows this.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-0S5WY7LYSB) to understand which articles people read and which they skip. The cookies it sets are anonymised by Google before they reach us — we never see anyone’s individual browsing history. You can read Google’s own description of how it handles this data at policies.google.com/privacy, and Google offers an opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense (publisher ID ca-pub-4633897509584354) to display advertisements alongside our articles. The fees Google pays us for these adverts are how we keep this site free to read. AdSense and its partners may set cookies that show you adverts more likely to be relevant to you. Google describes these cookies at policies.google.com/technologies/ads, and you can manage what AdSense shows you at adssettings.google.com.
Affiliate links
Some of the links to products, holidays and tickets in our articles are affiliate links. If you click one and later buy something from the merchant, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We use the Awin network for most of these links and Amazon Associates (United Kingdom) for some books and household items. To make this work, Awin or Amazon set a cookie that records the click — Awin’s policy is at awin.com/gb/legal/privacy-policy, and Amazon’s at amazon.co.uk privacy notice.
You can refuse, delete or block any of these cookies in your browser settings. Most browsers allow this on a site-by-site basis. Doing so will not stop you reading our articles.
How we use the information
We only use the information we collect for the purposes we have set out below.
- To answer messages you send us through the contact form or by email.
- To publish your comment on the post you have commented on, alongside the name you gave when you commented.
- To understand which articles are useful, so we can plan what to write next.
- To show advertisements and earn affiliate commission, which is how we fund the site.
- To keep the site secure, available, and free of spam.
The legal grounds we rely on under the UK General Data Protection Regulation are your consent (for non-essential cookies and any newsletter sign-up), our legitimate interests (running and improving a website), and the performance of a contract or our taking steps before entering into one (when you ask us to do something for you).
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the small number of suppliers who help us run the site, and only as far as they need it to do their job for us.
- SiteGround hosts the website and stores the database.
- Google provides the Analytics and AdSense services described above.
- Awin and Amazon provide the affiliate networks described above.
- WPMU DEV supplies Forminator, the contact-form software, and the Defender security plugin.
- Akismet (owned by Automattic) helps us filter comment spam.
We may also disclose information if a court, regulator or police force requires us to by law.
Where your information is stored
The website’s database is hosted in the United Kingdom. Some of our suppliers — Google in particular — operate worldwide, which means a copy of your data may travel to a country outside the UK. When that happens we rely on Google’s own data-transfer safeguards, which include the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses and the UK addendum to them, as well as Google’s certification under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
Comments, including the name and email you gave when commenting, stay attached to the post they were left on for as long as the post is published. We will remove a comment on request.
Messages sent through the contact form are kept in a Forminator inbox for up to two years and then deleted, unless we are still working through the matter you raised.
Server logs are kept for up to ninety days. Google Analytics data is held for fourteen months. Affiliate-tracking cookies have their own expiry — typically thirty days for Awin and twenty-four hours for Amazon.
Your rights
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to ask us:
- What information we hold about you.
- To correct anything that is wrong.
- To delete what we hold, where the law allows it.
- To stop processing your information, or to object to a particular use of it.
- To receive a copy of your information in a portable format.
- To withdraw a consent you have given — you can do that at any time without giving a reason.
To exercise any of these rights, write to editor@saturdayandsunday.co.uk. We will reply within one calendar month. If you are not happy with our reply, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Children
Our articles are written for grown-ups planning family days out. The site is not aimed at children under thirteen and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you are under thirteen, please ask a parent or guardian to send any message on your behalf.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy from time to time — when we add a new tool to the site, when the law changes, or when something here turns out to need a clearer explanation. The “last updated” date at the top of the page tells you when the most recent change was made.
